Getting to Normandy

I'll be in Dublin for a wedding in November. I'd like to take a side-trip to Normandy...but have been having difficulty in finding the easiest way to get there! Any suggestions? Also... my main reason for wanting to visit is to see the D-Day Beaches. What area in Normandy should I stay at? I'm looking for clean, reasonably priced accommodations. Any information would be appreciated.

Thank you.

I can't help with specifics on how to get there but whichbudget.com and skyscanner.com are websites that have routes/schedules/prices for inter-Europe discount airlines.

Here are some previous posts on Normandy that should help once you figure out how to get there.

With budget airlines these days, flying might be cheapest. Also, I believe there are ferries from Ireland to NW France. Let's go guidebooks are great for the exact logistics of getting from place to place. Also for budget accomodations.

As for where to stay, it depends if you plan to have a car or not. With a car you might choose a countryside B&B (chambre d'hote in French), or, without, Bayeux is a nice historic town and a place where many of the tours of DDay sights leave from. We are using Alain Chesnel of www.overlordtour.com for our visit in September, but other ones recommended on this board include Battlebus, Col. Chilcotte (sp?) all from Bayeux and those that leave from the battle memorial museum in Caen (www.memorial-caen.fr). Enjoy your trip!

If you'll have a car, consider the Château de Cottun, just outside Bayeux. You can read about it here in the "Great B&B in Normandy" thread.
