Getting to Milan from Spain

Hi, I'm looking at flying into Spain (Barcelona or Seville, not sure which yet) and staying for a week. Then I'd like to fly to Milan. I see that these carriers have flights BCN-MXP: Vueling, Air Berlin, Air Europa, Easy Jet, Ryan Air.

If you've flown on any of these carriers please let me know which is the best. Thanks for any advice. Greg

I've flown Easy Jet and Ryanair and I prefer Easy Jet. There is no weight limit on hand luggage. Besides Ryanair flies into Bergamo (which the

Sorry, I hit the send button too soon.
Ryanair flies into Bergamo which they say is Milan but which isn't whereas Easy Jet flies to Malpensa.

Like mentioned, depends on where you are going.. milan or the area around milan. Just check luggage limitations, etc. as that is the main difference en low cost flights. It is not too long os .. I haven't really cared about any of them and have been more excited about a cheap fare for the weekend than inconvenience or uncomfortable seats.

Air Europe will probably have free luggage up to 20 kg. Not sure about Air Berlin. The others all charge to check bags and have restrictions on size and/or weight of carry-on.

Ryanair first of all flies to Bergamo and does not fly from barcelona's main airport but outlying distant ones.

Second there are weight limits on hand baggage - check the web sites.

I have also flown Veuling and have not had any problems.

Check again who flies to MXP (Malpensa) - Ryanair definitely does not nor does Air Berlin. Also if you have substantial luggage both weight and/or number the low cost carriers charge a lot for this.

A new arrival to Malpensa - in that they have planes which are based at the airport - is Lufthansa. Their prices are pretty competitive and you definitely get better service and much more flexibility with luggage.

I suggest you use kayak.com and then with the results filter them so you only see direct flights.

For greater input from others you should also tag your message both Spain and Italy, especially Italy as it seems to be the country with more posters than any other in Europe (editor - are there any statistics on this?).

Ryanair flies from Barcelona main airport since September 2010.

My mistake. But it flies only to Milan Bergamo and still has all the problems of baggage restrictions, credit card charges, fees for printing boarding passes, charges for breathing air, going to the toilet (not yet but to come) etc etc

Ryanair is your choice if it is your only choice.

have you checked the flight times? sometimes the cheaper flights are at very inconvenient times, which may lead to you increased costs like airport hotels or taxis instead of buses.

sometimes the cheapest is not the best value.

If you are staying in Milan, I would recommend flying into Linate Airport, only 7KM east of Milan. Alitalia flys direct BCN to Milan Linate(LIN). Linate is much smaller, much closer to central Milan, and much easier to negotiate.
Buses or taxi into the city are quick and reasonable.

If you're Not staying in Milan, Bergamo is a good choice, especially if you're heading East.
Small airport, easy rental car pick up, closer to Bergamo,
Lake Iseo, Lake Garda, Brescia, Verona.

Malpensa is a better choice if heading West or going up to
Lakes Maggiore , Como or Varese
