Getting to + from Morcote....Suggestions?

Hello,

We are visiting Lake Como for 4 nights in late May (Varenna). We were going to do a day trip to Lugano and boat to Morcote, but we aren't sure we feel a great need to visit Lugano itself. Is there a different way to see Morcote and hike around the area a bit or do we need to start from Lugano itself?

Thanks,

Naxos

Unless you have a car, I think any other way of getting to Morcote will take more time than if you just went from Menaggio to Lugano and then ferried to Morcote.

Get an early start as this will be a long day. Don't forget your passports.

1. You can drive to Morcote directly.

2. Lugano is worth a quick visit for the old town. It really is nice. Go to Manor and get a quick bite to eat from their bakery.

3. You can stop off at Gandria and have a quick tour of the town. Very quaint.

Thank you Jean and Schuler! Yes, looks like this is going to be a long day....still I am enchanted by pictures of the town so if weather if favorable and legs are willing, I think I may encourage DW to give it a try.

I have this vision of Lugano as a big busy city - so I'm glad your reveiws are favorable schuler. Sounds like Lugano + Morcote (with Gandria if time) will be a worthy day trip.

Good reminder about the passports - I suppose we'll have to fuss with currency too.

Cheers,

Naxos

Yes, do plan time in Lugano---we have stayed there twice and love it.
