Getting to Dordogne

My extended family is traveling to the Dordogne in late June, returning in mid-July. What is the best way to get there - easiest and cheapest? We will be traveling out of Boston. Any travel suggestions? Thanks!

You'll have to try various options, but it will probably be easiest to fly into either Toulouse or Bordeaux, then rent a car (we are flying into Toulouse in July from Dulles through Frankfurt). Or, fly into Paris, then train to Libourne, Brive or Bordeaux and rent a car if flights into Toulouse or Bordeaux don't work.

I'm sure others with more experience will chime in, but that should hopefully get you started.

Good luck and happy travels!

We've made 3 trips and always flown into Bordeaux and picked up a rental there.

I recently returned from there. I flew into Toulouse. It is a nice, small airport. Very convenient for departing to the Dordogne area. If you will be using a rental car for 2 weeks I would suggest the Kemwel lease buy-back program. Prices were better than straight rentatl and you are 100% covered in every way.
Enjoy...........

The most popular new restaurant to visit in dordogne: Le Bistro de L'Octroi: Open every day: 7 days a week. Come to see the place and taste our food:more suggestions:http://perso.orange.fr/loctroi/

Part of the answer depends on what you want to experience, if anything, while traveling between point A and point B. If you have never visited the Loire valley, it might make sense to see a Loire chateau or two either on the way down or on the way up to Paris.
