Thanks for your help and feedback. I don't think I can afford to pay for a room at a hotel near the airport. If I was being really tight, then I'd elimate the taxi option too.

You can definitely afford an airport hotel - especially if you re-allocate that taxi fare by riding the train the night before.

NO! NO! NO! Beware of using Priceline for CDG. There are sorry reports on biddingfortravel.com of bidders discovering that PL includes hotels in the "Airport" zone that are 45 minutes away with no transport to CGG!

There are now cheaper hotel in the CDG area: Formule 1, Etap, or Ibis. They are all part of the same group, Accor. www.accorhotels.com. Don't expect the night of your life, but it's cheap and standardised, kind of Motel 6 (also Accor, BTW)
