getting to Cadiz

My nephew is going to Cadiz for summer study. He must be in Cadiz to meet up with the other students by a certain time. I'm trying to help him find the best way to get there. So far, we have looked at (1) flying into Madrid and taking the train to Cadiz; (2) flying into Seville and taking the train to Cadiz; (3) flying into Jerez and taking a cab to Cadiz. While my nephew has traveled in Europe before, he has always been with his family. This trip he will be on his own.

Flying into Madrid and taking the train to Cadiz is the least expensive option. However, we have read one person's experience that it took 4.5 hours to get through customs and get to the train station. The least expensive flight would only allow him 2 hours between landing and having to be on the train. Is 2 hours sufficient time? If so, what is the fastest way to get from the airport to the train station?

If he flies into Seville, he only has an hour to get from the airport to the train station. He will have already cleared customs in Madrid. Is an hour sufficient time to get from the Seville airport to Santa Justa station in Seville? What is the best/fastest way to get there?

If he flies into Jerez, he will probably take a cab to Cadiz. Besides the cost, do you know of any problem with this scenario?

Taking a cab from Jerez would be pretty expensive--why not take a bus or train?
For Madrid, 2 hours would probably be fine if he takes a cab from the airport.
For Sevilla, I think an hour might be tight, but probably okay if he takes a taxi to the station.
Does he speak any Spanish?

Also check flights to Malaga.

He speaks rudimentary Spanish. He is going to Cadiz to hone his skills.

That will help if he has to take taxis in a time crunch. At the airport taxi queue, I always ask the attendant what I shoudl expect to pay.

I would fly to Jerez-small airport with frequent bus to the town. The bus station is right next to the train station. Then take the frequent train to Cadiz.Tell him to make sure to vist Puerto de Santa Maria during his stay in Cadiz which really doesn't have that much to do.
