Getting to Aix-En-Provence from Marseille
Hi, I will be in Marseille for 1 day on a cruise, and would like to visit Aix-En-Provence. What would be the best way for 6 people to get there and back from the port?
The cruise line offers transportation for $45 per person. Is this the best I can do?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Take the train All scheduals are available from RAIl Europe via the internet. My husband and I plan to do this when our ship docks there. The station should be available from the docks by the metro, if I am reading this small map correctly. Good luck !!

I'd take the train. About 6 weeks ago, it looked like it would take about 30 minutes. (Aix should have gotten its TGV train a few weeks ago.) There's a good internet site for the French Train System with schedules, fares, etc:
<http://www.voyages-sncf.com>

Bon Voyage!

no, that's not the best but it's not that bad if it is roundtrip and takes you right from your boat to the center of Aix (and back). I wouldn't recommend TGV, that station is outside central Aix. YOu can take the regular train from Marseille St Charles station to regular Aix station right near central fountain and tourist office and within walking distance of a lot. It's only about a 1/2 hr train ride and probably costs about US$8 one way. You can walk to the train station from the port, it's probably between 1/2 to 1 mile, if you want, but you'll need directions and have to figure out the ticket and train system, if you don't know it in France. If you are used to all that, fine, I'd take train. If not, I'd take the cruise line's offer if it's a private car and convenient; I imagine you won't be able to match that RT fare with a taxi as it's about 20 miles. If that's one-way fare, it's no bargain. Someone else just asked this quesiton, I believe, if it is you, I suppose you don't like my info. BTW all train schedules are not available on Raileurope's site, they only have a selection of popular runs. All schedules are available on www.sncf.com

I just noticed someone said St Charles station is available from the port by metro; I didn't know that, in which case, that makes the train more attractive and I'd do that if you are comfortable with the idea.
