Can anyone tell me who has been to Rome, If I am arriving Rome at 5:00a do I stay in Rome for the Night, or go to Assisi. Can anyone tell me the least expensive way to go to Assist from Rome? Thank ou!

Are you arriving to Rome at 5am OR to Civitavecchia at 5am???

Train from Roma- Termini to Assisi. Cheapest is the regional train with stops versus the Eurostar Express. I paid 24 Euros for Express back in 2004.

If you're arriving by cruise ship you will arrive in Civitavecchia, which is around 1.5 hr from Rome. To go to Assisi from Civitavecchia by train you would need to change trains in Rome Termini station. Go to trenitalia.it for train schedules and prices.

Thank you both for your replies! So, is it better travel wise if from Civitavecchia (the port) if we just take a bus instead of changing trains?

And, is it better to go from the port into Rome for the 1st night and the vatican, since the ship arrives at 5:00a? Or, is it better to travel to Assisi first and then back to rome? If there are 20 of us, what is the best and fastest way to travel? Thank you!

Without knowing the rest of your trip plans, we can't decide which would be better for you. The sequence would depend on how it fits within your other plans.

Are you just visiting Assisi and Rome?
Do you plan to visit someplace else besides Assisi and Rome?
How many days do you have?
Do you need to return to Rome to depart by air?

Does the ship arrive at 5 am or is there actual debarcation at 5 am?

This may be naive and I have only taken a boat a couple of times - but when we arrived so early in the am you couldn;t leave until afrer 7 am.

That's a very good point Nytraveler. They do want you off the ship early but usually the time in the itinerary is the arrival time. Debarkation is usually an hour or two later.
