Getting Married in Positano!!!
My fiance and I were in Italy last year for three glorious weeks. We fell in love with Positano and now we are planning on getting
married there in May 2003. Has anyone out there been married or attended a wedding in Positano or nearby? Can you recommend a good agency?

Also we will probably be alone, no guests.
I'm not sure what this will feel like. I would appreciate any comments from others who have been married with no friends or family around. What did you do afterwards?
We are hoping for a private dinner on a terrace overlooking the water with a few musicians playing in the background so that we can dance together after dinner.

We stayed in Buca di Bacco last year but this time we will definitly want the most luxourious hotel in town. Would this be Le Sireneuse or San Pietro?

Thanks!
Jenny

No friends? No family? That sounds so sad to have a wedding without anyone to witness and join in your happiness. Sure you don't want a simple wedding in your hometown and THEN jet off to Italy for the honeymoon. I apologize for my presumptions --- and on to the topic at hand. I've not stayed in Positano's high end hotels, but am given to believe that Le Sirenuse is the one you'd like to choose. Also, if you're of the faith, then perhaps look into having the ceremony in that beautiful church in Amalfi --- I was there several years ago and saw a bride & groom standing on the steps. It looked like a lovely place for a wedding.
I realize there may be more than one church in Amalfi. I was thinking of the one that's centrally located with a broad staircase leading up to entrance, think it's St. Andrews ???
Jenny,

My fiance and I were thinking of a wedding/honeymoon in Italy as well. I looked up Wedding in Italy and got a lot of great sites from wedding planners that specialize in elopements/weddings for foreigners.

Are you an American? There is quite a bit of paperwork to be done and I have heard that it can take several [at least 4 months] to process.

If you are wanting a civil ceremony that is the easiest to arrange however if you are looking for a Catholic wedding, I have heard that it is very difficult to work out.

In my case, it would be easier to get married in Austria and then go on to Italy for the honeymoon. A previous divorce makes the process more difficult.

Hello Jenny,

If you don't get a personal recommendation from anyone, - here are a few agencies which organise weddings in Positano or elsewhere on the Costa Amalfitana:-

www.lacalla.it
www.weddings-in-italy.net
www.world-weddings.net
www.starnet.it/financialtour
www.felicecasalino.it

Hope this helps ...

Steve

Hi Jenny,

My husband and I got married in Positano last October and I can't tell you how beautiful and special it was. I did tons of research with various companies and finally decided on one based in Boulder, CO. Sogni Italiani's (means Italian Dreams) owner, Chandi Wyant, lived and worked in Italy and when she was back in the US she planned her wedding in Florence. It found that to be a really good selling point...her doing it all on her own and then starting a company to specialize in Italian weddings.

In the process of planning I received emails from Chandi on a daily basis and felt very comfortable doing so. We spoke on the telephone several times and to me she is one of those people that is very calm and soothing even when they have a lot going on. I actually miss emailing her, I feel like we became friends.

Anyway, we had a cival service at the town hall, was driven around by our photographer and then dropped off at Hotel Poseidon for our Anglican blessing on their terrace. Awesome view. Afterwards we had a Prosecco reception and then everyone walked up the street to dinner at El Capitano restaurant. On the walk up I was of course still in my wedding dress and everyone that we passed on the street clapped and cheered. I was the most happy bride that day. So incredibly memorable.

Do it and I doubt you will ever regret your descision. It was even exciting lugging my wedding dress from the States. Talk about people staring!!

Email me if you need further info. (as if I haven't said enough yet :))

Best Wishes and Congrats,

Jessica Arant

Me again. The paperwork, not a problem. Just faxing or mailing documents like name, address, religion, birth cert., etc. Nothing to out of the ordinary. Once we got there the longest part was driving to Naples to get stamps on all those documents. Took less than 2 hours and was painless. Any agency you chose will have it down pat and the process should be smooth.

Jessica

Thank you for your comments. In case anyone else is ever interested I have contacted www.lacalla.it. They responded quickly to my request. They are not only very professional and knowledgable about the Amalfi Coast area but they also seem very affordable.

We are still debating whether or not we will feel comfortable getting married with no friends or family. I'm glad I finally found someone who has actually been married there. Jessica, thank you for your comments. I will be in touch.
