Getting married in Paris?
 

Would it be possible for 2 Americans to get married in Paris, on relatively short notice? How would they go about it? Would it be a civil or religious ceremony?(They're Protestant). It will be just the 2 of them, not a big carnival. <BR> <BR>Any ideas, useful information, or anecdotes appreciated. <BR> <BR> <BR>clancy <BR> <BR>PS The info really is for a friend!

In addition, it involves mountains of paperwork, innumerable trips to the mairie, and the xeroxing of countless copies of documents. A honeymoon in Paris is a far better idea.

Having atended several weddings in France, I seem to recall that it is necessary to have a civil ceremony before you can have a religious ceremony. The religious ceremony is not necessary at all (from a legal point of view).

<BR> They can have a religious ceremony here, if, and only if they already had a civil marriage. So, I suppose they could get married in they US by civil authorities, contact a representant of their church in Paris and have the religious marriage done here. AFAIK, apart from proving they're legally married, there's no paperwork involved for a religious ceremony. Concerning the delay, I suppose it depends on their church's customs.

There is a book out there, the exact title of which I do not remember, dealing with getting married in foreign countries. It takes you through residency requirements, etc. step by step and is incredibly helpful, particularly for North America, Europe and the Carribean.
