Getting Married in Italy
My boyfriend and I just got engaged and would love to have some suggestions on where to get married in Italy. He is Italian and I have always dreamed of going to Italy...the Italian Riviera is top on the list. So, if you could give expensive and inexpensive place overlooking water....that would be greatly appreciated! Also, if you have any suggestions on where to get married, add that in there too!

You cannot get married wherever you wish in Italy. In the vast majority of municipalities you are only allowed to marry in the town hall, which is the officially sanctioned location for all civil ceremonies. In a few locations, there are more cooperative mayors who will perform ceremonies in a few other select locations. I am getting married in Venice and in that city there are four locations available including the city hall. While I have been to the Italian Riviera and it is quite beautiful, I have no idea if that part of the country has a good selection of facilities. It is possible that there will be no locations with views. I know that the vice mayor of Positano on the Amalfi Coast is a little more flexible and will perform ceremonies at some hotels with views.

Try www.italyweddings.com. My husband and I were married in March in Florence. I don't know if Ben does weddings in the Riviera but I am sure he can give you some advice. In Italy even the Italians have to have a civil service in the town hall but many then choose to have a religious ceremony in addition to that. I was completely pleased with the town hall in Florence. It isn't like a town hall in the united states. This was one of the former palace of the Medici. Beautiful tapestries and antigues. This was the best decision that I ever made. I wouldn't have gotten married any other way.

Good luck!

Leah - There are several agencies on the Amalfi Coast that arrange weddings if that area interests you.

Steve

P.S. Have a look at these for weddings in Santa Margherita/Portofino, Porto Venere, Rapallo ...

www.weddings-in-italy.net
www.world-weddings.net
