Getting From Train to Hotel - Venice

I am having a horrible time trying to figure out how I will get from the train station to my hotel. The station is Venezia S Lucia, and our hotel is Instituto San Giuseppe (located at: Ponte della Guerra, Castello 5402, Venice, 30122). Anyone know either exactly how to get there, or where I can find this information. Planning in London and Paris was easy using Google Maps, but now I'm at a loss.

Thank you!

Arriving at the train station in Venice is a sublime experience, or I should say, leaving the train station is. You walk out and the Grand Canal is before you. That being said, you take the Vaporetto to the stop closest to your hotel.
Or, you could splurge on a water taxi. There should be a dock right outside your hotel.

You should email your hotel and see what they advise.

IIRC, this is a convent (with a curfew), not really a hotel. I doubt they even have e-mail.

Do you have a map of Venice showing the vaporetto stops? As ladadog mentioned, the Venice train station is a joy. And it is pretty easy to read the vaporetto maps and figure out which one to take to the stop closest to your place.

TripAdvisor says this convent location is equidistant between the Rialto and San Marco vaporetto stops.

We too are staying at this convent and wondering if you were ever able to get more clear directions that what Trip Advsior thread indicated.

I haven't read the TA's thread but is this better?

"Istituto San Giuseppe - Ponte della Guerra, Castello, 5402, Venice 30122 (tel. 041/522.5352, fax 041/522.4891) Good location. All have bath, but no meals. CC not accepted. Curfew: 11 p.m. Open: All year. Train station: Santa Lucia. Take water bus #1 or #2 to Piazza San Marco. Cross the Piazza, walk 2 blocks on Mercerie and turn right; go about 4 blocks to Ponte Guerre (a bridge), cross it and turn left immediately."

In order to get to Ponte della Guerra, you will pass by Campo San Zulian and the church of the same name, then to Calle de Guerra. Thinking about it somehow I remember this institut and "cross it and turn left immediately" makes sense with what I remember. After the bridge, you don't walk on Calle Cassellaria at all. "Turn left immediately" after the bridge is correct.

On the following map, Mercerie is the street that starts at Torre dell Orologio (Clock Tower)

Thank you!

That is exactly the info I needed!

Now we'll have more time for exploring without luggage in tow and frazzled nerves.
