Getting from Swizerland to Lake Como Italy???

Hi everyone- We are flying into Milan on 9/21- have a wedding in Ascona, Switzerland which is near Locano from what I understand. We will be in Ascona until 9/23 and have reservations to stay in Tremezzo, Italy until 9/26. We are renting a car.

Any thoughts on the easiest way to get from Ascona/Locarno to Lake Como? I am not familiear with this area as I have never been. Don't know if I can take a ferry?

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I'm sorry, I meant Lugano/Ascona to Lake Como

Lots of trains between Lugano and Como - if coming from Locarno take the train via Bellizona to Lugano, on the mainline between Switzerland and Milan, via Como. Really easy just buy a ticket once there.

For lots of great info IMO on Italian trains check out these fab IMO sites - www.trenitalia.com - official site of the Italian State Railways for schedules and fares and also www.ricksteves.com and www.budgeteuropetravel.com..

but again this is absolutely no problem by train and it is the best and easiest way to go - buses probably do not even duplicate this route.

You need to look all this up on a map. Ascona is near Locarno on Lago Maggiore. Lugano is to the southeast on Lake Lugano. From Lugano it's a straight shot along Lake Lugano and through to Menaggio, then a short distance south along Lake Como to Tremezzo. There's a bus that does the Lugano to Menaggio route. On youtube there's a video of this bus ride -- if you want to get some idea of the road.

I looked up the route on Google Maps and at www.viamichelin.com. It should take you a couple hours. You can print the driving directions from one of these sites. (I had to adjust the Google Maps suggested route to force it through to Menaggio. You might prefer the original.)
