Getting from Rome to the port of Civitavecchia
 

In November, we'll be spending a few days in Rome (2 couples) and then boarding a Carnival Cruiseline ship at the port of Civitavecchia.

Carnival charges $85 per person to shuttle passengers from a central hotel in Rome (outrageous!) and a taxi that far would probably be just about as bad.

We're thinking of taking a train from Rome to Civitavecchia and then a taxi to the port. I can get info on the train fare (very reasonable), but no one I've talked to can give me even a wild guess about what the cab fare would be to the port.

Has anyone made this little trek before who could give us some insight on the best way to get to the port from Rome and how much we should expect to spend? Thanks!

In the search box at the top of this page, type in rome to civitavecchia for all sorts of information.

To make it easier for you..the train from Rome (some also stop at San Pietro) is often a "local" so no need for reservations.

Takes about an hour unless you can get some sort of IC which is faster.

The railroad station in Civitavecchia is about a ten-fifteen minute walk (all flat surfaces...sidewalks) to the port <b>entrance</b> and your ship will be docked somewhat further on.

I would take the train which probably costs less than 10 Euro and then take a taxi from the station to the ship.

It's about 1.5km from the train station to the docks.

Cab fare will be under 10E.

The distance from the station to the ship in Civitavecchia depends on where the ship is berthed.
The port is compact and not a long way from the station, but too far to walk with luggage. Finding your ship within the port is something best done in a taxi.

you should be able to arrive to your ship from the port entrance at Forte Michelangelo with the free shuttle bus.
