getting from Positano to Florence

What is the best way to get from Positano to Florence? We need to be in Florence hopefully by mid afternoon to pick up our rental car. Am I on the right track in thinking the best option might be to hire a private driver for a very early morning departure to Naples to catch a train leaving at 10:10am? I know we would have to switch trains in Rome.

Any help is most appreciated.
Thanks
Sam

It might be faster/easier to go Salerno - Florence. It's only about an hour from Positano to Salerno, but that's not including high season traffic.

by train two ways - i'd first consider taking a boat or frequent Amalfi Coast public bus to Salerno from where you can catch trains to Naples Centrale, though are a few Salerno-Florence direct trains...but prepare to change in Naples.

Or take a boat or bus to Sorrento, then the CircumVesuviana narrow-gauge train to Naples Centrale to catch direct trains from there to Florence.

for schedules check www.trenitalia.com

pretty much twice-hourly Florence to Rome but i think about every two hours Florence-Naples; again could have to change in Rome on some connections.

Naples-Florence direct trains about every hour and take 3 hours and 36 minutes

Salerno-Naples about hourly take 50 mins.

Positano-Sorrento by bus probably an hour; Sorrento-Naples tiny train about 60-70 mins.

Hi Sam,

A limo to Naples Centrale will be about 100E.

If you take the 09:30 from Naples, you won't have to change trains.

The train Salerno/F takes at least 1 hr longer than Naples/F.

Thanks for the replies.

Ira- your suggestion is perfect. I should have looked a little closer at the trenitalia schedule. Any idea what time I should book the transfer from Positano to Naples at so we are at Napoli Centrale in time to catch the 9:30? I plan on using Renato Cuomo based on the great recommendations on this site.

Thanks again
Sam
