Getting from Piraeus to Athens

I am taking a cruise with 7 other people (three children). We stop at Piraeus for one day (6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.). I found a walking tour guide in Athens who will take us for the entire day but she cannot supply transportation to and from the port. Is it easy to get a cab at the dock? Do the cab drivers speak English? We will need two cabs for eight people (can 4 people fit in a cab -- two of the people are small so it would be three adults and 1 child in each cab). Is there a set price from Piraeus to the Syntagma metro station in Athens? Is it easy to get a cab from that area back to the dock? Thanks.

there is also a direct train link between Piraeus and Athens town center.

There are lots of cabs around the port at Piraeus. Suggest you ask the taxi driver(s) how much they will charge before you get in, to save any misunderstandings.

As PalenQ mentioned, there is a train which leaves from the Cyclades dock area connecting with the metro system in central Athens. This is a quick and inexpensive way to get to your destination, but I have no idea how far away from it your cruise ship will be docked.

In my experience you shouldn;t have any trouble getting a taxi.

As PalQ says, there is a Metro station in Pireaus but the ease of reaching that may greatly depend on exactly where your ship docks.

The Metro line runs from the Ferry port at Piraeus right to the heart of Athens where your guide will be. The price is about 1 euro per person so it is a bargain. It takes about 25 minutes. Unfortunately the cruise ships dock on the other side of the same port. Last time I was there we walked from the ferry port to the cruise ship port. It took about 20 minutes. Probably not a good option for small people.

The last time we took the taxi from Piraeus to the Monistraki area it cost 25 euros at rush hour. My wife had broken her foot the previous day so we didn't have the option of using the train.
