Getting from Munich Airport to Regensburg

Hi Everyone,
What's the best way to get from Munich airport to Regensburg? This is for a lone traveller arriving in the morning Dec. 1. I know the train is about 90 minutes, but where is the station from the airport? Anyone ever use a car service or private transfer that they reccommend? Any info is appreciated.

According to the timetables at www.bahn.de, you take a bus from Terminal 1 to Freising and a train from there to Regensburg. Buses depart once an hour at 40 minutes past the hour. To see for yourself, click on the drop-down menu in the upper right-hand corner for English. After you get summary timetables for Muenchen Flughafen Terminal 1-Regensburg, click on "Details for all" to see the connecting points.

I think that Tim has the best advice. The bus is a dedicated airport to Freising train station shuttle costing 2-3 euros. From there are several connections to Regensburg by regional express which you can ride using a Bayern-Ticket, single for 19 euros.

If you prefer you can catch a taxi to Freising for about 30 euros.

I once found a link for a Lufthansa shuttle bus to Regensburg. We looked at it but it was not as timely as the train and cost a bit more.

Regards, Gary

Since you'll be traveling alone, a standard ticket from Freising to Regensburg (€16.10) will be cheaper than a Bayern-Ticket. However, a Bayern-Ticket is good all day on regional trains and buses in Bavaria. On weekdays you must depart after 09:00. See here: http://tinyurl.com/29mh69.

There's a shuttle service from Munich Airport direct to any hotel or address in Regensburg. It costs 34 euros one way for one person. For me, the ease of transport is well worth the money. Now that I've reached senior status, lifting luggage up and down train platforms is something I try to avoid.
Here's the link: www.airportliner.com

I THINK a Bayern-Ticket would cover the bus from the airport to Freising as well as the train from Freising to Regensburg.

I'd go with Tim's suggestion - 20 min bus ride to Freising, plenty of time (10 min) to get to the train platform, then an hours ride to Regensburg. All for a €19 Bayern-Ticket-Single. If lifting carrying your luggage a few yards at the station is too much, pack lighter.

Bus #635 connects the airport with Freising station. The bus runs every 20 minutes (bahn.de only gives the connection suitable to catch the the train Freising-Regensburg).
If you buy the Bayern Ticket at the airport, bus #635 is also covered by that (if you start your trip after 9 a.m.).

But: The airport shuttle for €34 -which Barbara mentioned - sounds like a very good deal, when you keep in mind that it is quite some distance to Regensburg. And the difference between €19 for bus/train and €34 is not that much.

The cost factor is less important to me than getting to my destination as conveniently and comfortably as possible after a long, overnight trip from the USA west coast. If I had a travel companion I would probably opt for a private driver. I've done that a couple of times. What a treat to be met by someone holding up a sign with your name. Our last trip to Germany the friendly driver helped with luggage and then took us on a scenic, informative drive from Frankfurt airport to our base in Boppard on the Rhine. The dollar was stronger then, though, and there was someone to share the cost. Everyone has different priorities, but for me this expenditure ranks higher than a 4* hotel, shopping, or expensive meals. I'll stay in pensions and eat bratwurst and pretzels to be able to afford what many would consider an extravagant expense.

Does anyone know of a shuttle service from MUC to Passau? If not, any recommendations for a private car service? Thanks!

Patty,
You might take a look at this website:
www.airport-shuttle-munich.com
He was too expensive for me as a solo traveler, but would be good if someone else to share cost. The website is fun regardless, and I'm sure George would be an entertaining guide/driver. You'll need to email him to get costs.

Thanks, Barbara! There are 4 of us so cost isn't as much of an issue. I'll give George an email.
