Getting From Italy to London

What's the best way to get from Italy (specifically Rome or Florence) to London?

I've been looking at booking multi-city flights US - Rome (or Florence), Rome (or Florence) to London, London - US. Also researched flights from just US - Rome (or FLR) and then London - US.

I looked in to taking the train, but with a time estimate of 24 hours I would rather fly.

Has anyone made the journey from Italy to London? What was the easiest, cheapest way to get there?

*BTW, I'll be traveling the first week of January.

flying is usually the cheapest and easiest from Rome, Florence of Pisa's International Airprt - close to Florence. www.whichbudget.com or www.skyskanner.net for any airlines serving those cities and London - Heathrow, Gatwick or Standsted makes little difference or even Luton.

Exactly what is your question? Why would you take multiple trains and blow a day on the rails?

Heathrow is the busiest international airport in Europe. Gatwick is in the top 10. Dozens of airlines fly to London from major cities throughout Europe and Rome is on the first tier of major cities.

The answer is FLY.

Definitely fly.

You could book a multi-city flight into Rome/Florence and out of London back to the US, then take a separately booked flight between your chosen city in Italy and London. Try whichbudget.com to see who flies where. Make sure to account for transit to/from the airports in the final cost - Ryanair or Easyjet may look cheapest, for example, but it costs more to get to central London from Stansted than from Heathrow if you go public transport.

And check ALL fees with the likes of Ryanair - reserved seat, baggage, etc. The Ryainair chief recently floated even the idea of paid toilets aboard, only to be shot done by approbation from all corners. Get the bottom line always.
