Getting from Italy to Greece

Question:
What is the best way for the $$ to get from Rome or Naples to Crete? Do we spend the extra money and fly or is there a less expensive way maybe by Ferry? Traveling in July.
Thanks for anyones help!

We're also traveling from Italy-Greece in July. After doing some research, I found that there are no flights available between Rome or Naples and Crete. You have to fly Rome-Athens, either on Alitalia or Aegean Airlines, then connect onto another plane for the 55-min. flight to Crete.

From Athens, there is also an overnight ferry to Crete.

I saw this post and just had to respond. I did this trip 30+ years ago when I took the ferry from Brindisi to Crete. I don't know if I could do the same trip today but it was certainly an experience I will never forget. Certainly something to consider. I have no idea what the schedules or financial considerations would be but I think it's worth looking into. (Did I mention that I was only about 20 yrs. old and only opted for the deck passage???? No way would I ever consider that now!)

Where is Brindisi?

Weadles, Did you book the flight from Rome/Athens/Crete yourself or did you use a travel agent?

You can actually fly Rome-Athens and then Athens-Crete on Aegean
www.aegeanairlines.com and book it yourself online.
