Getting from Frankfurt to Heidelberg

Four of us will be flying into the frankfurt Airport and want to get to Heidelberg with lots of luggage. What is the best and least expensive way? Does anyone know what a taxi would cost?

2 Years ago, I paid $170 for a cab between Frankfurt airport and Heidelberg. I had no choice . . . there must be a better way.

By the way, four people with lots of luggage wouldn't have fit in the cab I took - a 300 series Mercedes.

How much luggage can you possibly have?

If it is a suitcase and carry on, each, then take the train.

AS I recall, you take a train to Mannheim and then transfer to a train to Heidelberg. Time should take about an hour.

If you are going to the old town (Altstadt), take a local train from Mannheim Hbf to the small station Heidelberg Karlstor (first stop after Heidelberg Hauptbahnhof). It has a much better location than the main station.
