Getting from Florence Train Station to Ponte Vecchio
 

We will be arriving by train to Florence and need to get to the apartment we are staying in that is located on Lungarno Acciaiuoli right near the Ponte Vecchio. IS the train station far from there? What is the best way for us to get to the apt from the train. What should we expect to pay? Thank you for your help!

Taxis are plentiful and cheap, and there is a "stand" for them at the the train station, and a place to queue up for them. I'd roughly estimate you're looking at 10-15 Euros for this trip, depending upon the number of people in your party, the number of bags you have, and what you'd care to trip the driver.

Bookchick gives good advice. My guess is that it is at least a mile through twisting, turning, and narrow streets. Do you know which side of the Arno River your apartment is located? You will find plenty of cabs in the cab rank on the big plaza just outside the station. Day or night.

Thanks for the help! Any advice on how to get from Trevisio Aiport in Venice to St Mark's Square? The web sites are saying the trip is 1 hour and 15 minutes to go 19 Kilometres. That makes no sense to me but I have never been there!

Well, boats are a lot slower thancars - but that still sounds like far too long. But then I've only done it by water taxi - about 20 minutes I think - perhaps the alliguna takes much lomger.

You won't find any boats at Trevisio Aiport; it is quite a ways inland, perhaps 20 miles from Venice, so I think the time estimate they gave you is good. I believe they have bus service from Trevisio Aiport to Mestre, then on to Venice. My personal preference would be to get off the bus at Mestre and take the short train ride into Venice; the initial view of the grand canal when you come out of the train station is memorable. Outside the train station you can catch a vaporetto to St. Mark's. I would suggest you buy a three-day pass for the vaporettos, and spend your first 72 hours touring the canals and visiting the islands on the vaporettos; after that you can spend the balance of your time walking around the city itself.
