Getting from Cinque Terre to Venice
 

Hi,

We will be spending three nights in Riomaggiore. After we need to get to Venice for our last three nights in Italy. I was thinking we would take the commuter train back to La Spezia and then a train to Venice, but it looks like that might be a pain. Should we rent a car in La Spezia and drive?

Any advice would be appreciated.

We did the exact same trip. We took the train to La Spezia and than the train to Venice. I don't remember it beening a pain at all.

Do you have an details on how you went about that? This is my first time so I am the one feeling a little "clueless" ;) Should I buy my tickets in advance or can I just do it all there? Any advice you can provide would be so appreciated. Also, about how long is the trip from La Spezia to Venice?

If I remember correctly, you HAVE to have a reservation for the train from La Spezia to Venice so buy them in advance. I must have got them off the internet. Didn't need reservations for the commuter/milk train. We took it out of Monterroso. I can't remember how long the train ride was. Three or four hours??? The La Spezia train station sticks out in my mind as they had three different times for the same train and of course the train did not leave at any of those times. Lol! Ask. The locals were very helpful and friendly.
