Getting cribs in Spain
 

My husband, my parents, my one year old and I are planning to travel to Spain (Barcelona, Madrid, Seville) in October. Because of the size of our group I think renting apartments would make more sense - but we need a crib. Does anyone know if it is possible to rent baby gear in these cities? If we do stay in hotels, do they tend to have cribs/pack&plays available? I hate to haul ours across the ocean and then around the country. Any suggestions of places to stay would also be appreciated. Thanks!

Yes, they usually have cribs in hotels here, no problem at all in the big cities you are visiting but anyway, ask before booking.
I don't know about apartments but it doesn't hurt to ask, maybe they can provide it for you.Though, it's not very common to rent appartments here for less than a week.
I don't believe you can rent baby gear :)

You'll probably find the British English word 'cot' rather than 'crib' in hotel and apartment descriptions, because of the preponderence of British visitors.
Spanish word is (la) cuna.

I forgot to mention that - a "cot" is what you are looking for if the website ins in English. That will be a baby crib - not a camp bed/cot.

Hello eastave, I don't know if this is still true but sometime ago I knew a family that travelled in Europe and they were quite worried about the cribs (or cots) they put their little one in as they said they did not meet the safety standards that we have in the US. But of course until the new safety standards neither did the cribs in the US. Fortunatly their baby never had any problems but I just wanted to mention this. No doubt some European Fodorite will be able to address the issue of safety requirements for European cribs. Best wishes to all of you, it sounds like a lovely family trip!

Yes European standards are different to those found in the US. Who knows which are the best? All we can say is that in Europe babies do not die because of those differences. So there is no need to worry!

Thank you all for your responses. I did know about the cot terminology from a trip to Australia/New Zealand. And thanks to the encouragement, I have found some apartments that offer up cots.
