Thank you all for your input. I have read so much that I have decided to give a lot of thoughts to all the advice received, particularly on not taking the gondola and I'll be back soon to tell you how I really feel about going to Venice. Thanks again.

Don't take a traghetto. They're really tippy when you get on. I don't know how the locals stand on them.

I agree Bonise, I will never get in a traghetto, lol. I have some Italian women friends in Veneto and they won't either. And I use to be involved in boat racing so it is not that I am afraid to be in a boat. But those traghetti scare me to death.

For heaven's sake, people! Caribegirl23 does not need your fear-mongering about traghetti! She can perfectly well enjoy Venice without going near a traghetto!
Caribegirl23, believe me. Calm down and do not fret about the water. |
For heavens sakes back to you Zerlina. I note all of your posts make you appear so uptight. Relax and keep in mind you don't control the posts on Fodor's. And do have a pleasant day!

It is possible to go everywhere in Venice without once stepping on a boat. The vaporetti make it more convenient to get to some places, and they are extremely wide and stable. The gondolas are more like carriage-rides around central park -- romantic but certainly not necessary for getting anywhere. You will be fine. |
