getting around Scotland

We'll be in Edinburgh in July and want to go to the British Open at Carnoustie. What's the best way to get there?
Also, what's the best way to get from the center of Edinburgh to the Glasgow airport?
thanks!

Have you been to Scotland before? You are sure to love it! Scotland and Croatia are my favourite countries on the planet (so far!).

We, too, are going to the Open. You say you hope to go - do you have tickets? When we got ours in January we were told a few days later it was sold out. Hopefully not!

We just do a mapquest whenever we want to get from Point A to Point B. We often take the longer scenic routes. I will leave that info to a local or pro - they will be able to advise you better than I.

Take the train. The traffic round the Open is a nightmare.

The station is near the course.

Train from Edinburgh to Glasgow Queen street then bus to the airport (help me here, someone; the bus does go from Queen Street, doesn't it?)

Go to www.traveline.org.uk for train and bus scheduling in Scotland. Good luck.

In response to the question about bus from Queen Street Station to Glasgow Airport, the answer is yes - there is a bus stop just outside Queen Street station for Glasgow Airport. It leaves every 15 minutes during the day.

Thanks everyone.

And, YES, we do have tickets for the Open.

Scot Rail will lay on special trains between Edinburgh & Carnoustie for the Open.
