Getting around Rome

We will be SIX(ages-,35,57,58, 62, 63 and 93.) boarding the MSC OPERA on Sunday 6/25/06 for a 8PM sailing from Civitavecchia. I plan to arrive in Rome on Sat AM of 6/24/06.
1)best way to get from FCO to Roem Hotel.
2) any recommendation on hotel in Rome and inexpensive?
3)Is it worth trying to get in Friday morning for extra day of sightseeing. 4 in the group have not been to Rome.
4)What are the MUST SEES for DAY and DAY 2.
5)Most inexpensive way to book a car from hotel to seaport.
6)Should we usee MSC's transfer to FCO airport or is there a better/cheaper way?
7)Anyone know if others will be on the 6/25/06 cruise from Rome R/T for 7 days.
8)If yes to 7) above, what are must see tours versus waste of money.

SOrry for the long list of questions, but we fixed incomers need to maxmimize $ value.
Thanking you in advance, wcruiser49

If I were the 93 year old I would want to be in a private car from FCO to the hotel and the same one going out from the hotel to the ship. Alot of companies have been recommended here.

Do you mean to arrive a day early? Of course it is worth it.

We stayed at the Hotel Ara Pacis in the heart of the historic district in Rome. Like many hotels it is on the second floor of the building, but they do have an elevator - holds about 4 with all your luggage. Very nice! The rate is B&B - breakfast was simple but adequate. It was within 15 minutes of all the popular sites so you don't have to drive. Spanish Stairs, Trevi Fountain, Vatican, St. Peter's, Colliseum, etc. For dinner try Vito's Irish Pub around the corner from the hotel. Close to upscale shopping! The hotel arranged a limo for us - cost 50E - we booked through Expedia.com but also try Verene. com Watch out for the bandit cabs - best to book through the hotel, travel agent etc. they know which ones are honest

oops! forgot to mention the limo for 50E was from FCO airport to the hotel
one way, about the same that you would pay from O'Hare airport in Chicago to the suburbs

Many thanks for the above advice.

There are several limo services that will pick you up at the airport and take you to your hotel. With six people that will be cheaper than taking the train or two taxis.
www.limoservicerome.com - They will wait outside baggage claim for you holding a sign with your name.

It will cost much more to transfer from Rome to the port by car. Cheapest option is to train (about 5 euro) from Rome to Civitavecchia and then a taxi from the train station to the port.
