Getting around Pisa
 

My Wife and I are heading to Florence & Bologna in early September. We are hoping to hop a train to Pisa for a day somewhere while in the region. What is the best way to get around Pisa once we arrive? We want to see the tower and any other "Must See" locations.

Walk - everything, including the rail station, is central.

Yes, on foot.

Or you could walk one way from the train station to the Field of Miracles and take the bus the other way.

Rick Steves has a good walking tour of Pisa.

Agree with walking from train station.

"Whether you are arriving by train from Florence or Lucca, the station best situated to provide access to the Field of Miracles (Leaning Tower, Cathedral, Baptistry and Camposanto Monumentale) is NOT Pisa Centrale but Pisa San Rossore Station. Directly west of Campo dei Miracoli, it is only a short walk of about 600m from the station to reach your destination."

DH and I always used Centrale because it was more convenient to our hotel. I am not familiar with San Rossore Station but have heard it is closer to tower.

The problem is most trains don't stop there. If you happen to pick one that does, then it is much closer. It will tell you if your chosen train stops there on the trenitalia website.

Right, the day trip from Florence I did to Pisa stopped at Pisa Centrale and it was a bit of a walk (far from impossible) out to the Field of Mircales. I did just take a bus from the train station. I wish I'd have more time to walk. I wasn't aware of another train station option in Pisa until after my trip.

I tried to get off at that stop... couldn't get the train door open! LOL!!!
