Getting Around in Tromso

I will be celebrating my 30th birthday in Tromso, Norway next month :) I figured that's the best way to make it a happy time and not a depressing affair, haha.

My main question is regarding traveling to/from the airport, but also traversing the city itself.

We will be staying at the ABC Hotel Nord and I have seen on other websites that we have 2 bus options to central Tromso - both the 40 and 42 buses. I prefer this over the airport shuttle since it is almost half the price.

The address for our hotel is Parkgata 4. I see the street but do not know how to determine the location of the bus stops to know which stop is actually closest to the hotel. The hotel website says "nr.40 to bus stop Wito or nr.42 to bus stop Posthuset" - but I have no idea where those are!

We were intending to do most of our traveling by foot. Is this the best way to see everything? Or is the bus system more efficient? If so, is there a day pass that can be purchased? We picked a hotel that seemed to be centrally located in order to allow us the option to walk around.

Also, does anyone have recommendations of things to do and see in the 2 days we are there? I know it is a short stay, but we are having to pack a lot into a very little amount of vacation.

Thanks!

I was in Tromso in December. I can't answer your question about specific bus stops, but can tell you that there is a day pass for buses that is the most economical way if you will be taking more than one or two rides. The buses are easy to use.

We visited the Polar Museum and found it quite interesting. We enjoyed just walking around the town. Mostly in the dark! We also went to the Cathedral of the Arctic. Our other activities were winter ones - dogsledding and Northern Lights chase. We wanted to see the University Museum of Tromso - I believe you'd need to take the bus there - but we didn't have time. If you are interested in history, there is the Tromso Defence Museum, which I can't speak to from personal experience, as it is closed in the winter, but I would like to see!!

it says : "City bus (airport bus stop across parking lot and across the street)"

the Wito stop is about 3 blocks from your hotel, here:

wito corner is pretty well known. so you'd have no problem asking the driver.

Thank you menachem for that helpful link! I was having a tough time finding the location of the bus stops - that is exactly what I needed!
