Getting Around in St. Tropez

I've found what seem to be some nice hotels at reasonable prices in some of the villages outside of St. Tropez such as Ramatuelle and Gassin. Unfortunately I will not have a car. How easy is it to get back and forth from St. Tropez, do they have good bus and cab service, especially at night? Or should I just find a hotel in St. Tropez? I'll be there in summer.

Thanks.

Elvira did you a great service with all those listings. If you choose to stay outside of St. Tropez, my personal choice of all the places you named, would be Ramatuelle. Lovely village, great location, lower cost hotels. Bus rides are not the most convenient way to get back and forth, but honestly, one full day in St-Tropez is just about all you need anyway. But if you really want to spend most of your time, amounting to several days, in St-Tropez, then you should go ahead and get a hotel in town. Will save you a lot of time, perhaps won't be a lot more cost considering bus fare and lost time.

When we stayed in the heart of town with our car, one day we decided to walk along the water out to the beach sites. It was quite a long and enjoyable walk and we had lunch at one of the nice beach "cafes". Afterwards we asked about getting a bus back to town. We had just missed one and there wouldn't be another one for a couple of hours. The cafe called a taxi for us. We waited 45 minutes. They called again. We waited another half hour. Finally he came and we were surprised how short the ride was back to town -- we could have walked. My point is that public transportation was pretty bad -- despite it was in the middle of the summer -- high season.
We stayed at Hotel Sube, which was a delightful place with a private balcony right in the center of the harbour area. It may be too busy for some, but we loved it!! We plan to go back and stay there again next summer.

Thank you all for the bus schedules and your advice it has been very helpful. It sounds like I will be better off staying in St. Tropez.
