Getting a Cab in Paris..Early Morning Flight
 

Maybe a silly question, but my brother in-law and sister in-law have to get a taxi to CDG to make a 6:30 a.m flight (poor kids). They are staying in a rented apartment and they speak very limited French. Any suggestions on how to arrange for a cab to pick them up at what will be a very early hour? I have told them that surely the Fodorites will know. Thanks in advance.

You could try: http://www.taxi-paris.net/. This site is managed by independant (and legal) taxi drivers. They have an email address so you could book ahaed of time

I have a couple phone numbers for two of the biggest taxi companies in Paris (I like G7 myself) and these are the English-speaking numbers:
Taxis Bleus 49-36-10-10
Taxi G7 41-27-66-99

Those aren't their main numbers, but are special English lines. I'd be sure to call and check them to make sure they are still valid from when I got them.

My husband and I rented an apartment in the Latin Quarter area two years ago. We had to get to the airport at about the same time (4:00 AM) and just went to a busy street (St. Germaine) and there were plenty of taxis there.

I agree with Palette, you can book thru Parishuttle. We used them last December from Latin Quarter and we had an early flight so I asked Mark the manager to have the driver pick us up at 4:30AM! He showed up on time and with few stops along the way, we got in with plenty of time.

great -- glad you checked, Gayle, so now I know. Both have web sites, also, and claim you can order a cab online but I think I'd be a little nervous about doing that (www.taxis-bleus.com and www.g7.fr) and being sure they would respond. I suppose it's a good idea to order a cab the night before in such situations (especially that early).

There may be taxis "everywhere" on a busy street, but I believe you must go to a taxi stand to get one--not hail on the street as you may do in the US. Just an FYI.

I would absolutely not trust making my flight home to the hope that a taxi would be readily available at that time of the morning, nor would I trust a shuttle company.

Call the night before to arrange for pickup.

In response to Gretchen's post, I frequently hail taxis on the street in Paris just as I do in the US. I believe they are not supposed to stop for passengers within a certain distance of a taxi stand, but otherwise they certainly pick up passengers on the street.

I would not count on this for an early morning flight, however, unless you have seen the street and know for sure that there is a large taxi presence at that hour of the morning.
