On to day 6..
2/20/08 *BF's BIRTHDAY and the day Europe officially kicked my butt*

It's 8am and I am sick. So I pop some more meds and go back to sleep in hopes that maybe if I wake up later and I'll feel better.

zzzZZzzZZZzz

I wake up at 2pm and feeling somewhat better. Maybe if I just keep today very low impact and come home early, I'll be okay. We start our day out by grabbing a panini and walking to the Eiffel Tower. After a couple snapshots, we hop on the metro and get to Notre Dame.
We walk inside and I can't believe how awesomely dark and beautiful inside. Unfortunately, it's already nearing 4pm and they weren't allowing anybody else to go up to the top. Oh darn. Well, I guess it's all good because my foot was really starting to hurt.

We observe some gypsie trickery outside the cathedral and stop by the crypt on our way to the Arc d'Triomphe. We walk up the steps to the top of the Arc and I am once again blown away by the amazing view of the city. I'm sick and my foot is really starting to kill me and of course, don't forget the blister that is now starting to spawn into two blisters...but this is all worth it.
Luckily, it's Wednesday and the Louvre is opened till 10pm today! We hop on the metro again and get to the Louvre by 8pm. Wandering around the museum, loving every piece of art and observing art students sketching on the ground I get this excruciating pain in my achilles heel.
It feels like a tear!
Every time my right foot would step the grooves of my heel would tense up and it would be hard to bring my foot back down.
I later come to find out that achilles heel injuries are due to an increase amounts of walking/running - very common in marathon runner..
I am truly breaking down but I had one more stop to see!

Champs-Elysees! I am amazed at the women here who can walk around in stilettos and hot dresses in brisk weather.
I'm now hobbling, sniffing, and definitely getting really hungry.
We finally stop at a wonderful restaurant and have the birthday dinner here. Originally, we were trying to go to a club out for BF's birthday but due to my failing condition we decide to go home after dinner.
The food is absolutely delicious and after an espresso we take the metro back to the hotel.

Tomorrow we go to Rome via Ryanair. Which means we need to be be up and out of the hotel by 5:30am.

We get back to the hotel and it's 2am. Bf wants to get some shuteye so he dozes away. Me on the other hand, I am fully awake from that espresso!!!
No wonder people in France stay up late and smoke a lot of cigarettes!
I need to get rest before I get any sicker...

It's 5am and I'm still watching BBC world news.
*sigh*

Off to Rome..

It's been over a year and I realized that I never finished this report!! Apologies!

Day 7 -
We arrive in Rome...and I got maybe, just maybe, 30 minutes of sleep. Still awake from that espresso. darn.
Luckily, I arranged for a shuttle to pick us up. Phew.
We find our shuttle and about 30 minutes later we arrive at our bed and breakfast.
I end up crashing because I've been up for almost 24 hours.
Finally -- rest..

I wake up around 6pm..and I feel alot better...still sick but..HEY! I"M IN ROME!!

I go outside and my ankle is still killing me! Luckily there is a pharmacy around the corner and I bought myself an ankle wrap. This helped keep my ankle in place while I walked..and actually made me feel a bit better!

My Bed n Breakfast, Il Capitello, was very nice! Just a few blocks from The Vatican. It consisted 3 rooms and a kitchen - breakfast of toast and tea every morning.
The room was spacious with a private restroom. Luckily, during my stay there was nobody that stayed so it was like having a whole house to myself. :)
I highly suggest this Bed & Breakfast.

Back to the story, I was still feeling under the weather so we decided to take a stroll, eat at the pizzaria next to our b&B, and call it a day. Uneventful day I know but at this point in my trip I decided to take a rest day.

Tomorrow - The Vatican!
