Boy --- John, you probably never thought you'd kick off such a 'hot' thread as this. But clearly this issue is quite the irritant for many folks --- one of those contributing factors in airplane rage.

I can't believe all the bickering about this issue. If the seat is designed to recline, then by all means the person in the seat has the right to utilize the design of the seat. It is not UNREASONABLE for a person to recline their seat. Those inconvenienced by the reclining of the seat in front of them should put up and shut up by buying a business class or first class seat or drive or take a boat.
