Does anyone know if the castles in Germany are open to visit in early december?

Depends on the castles. Some may be closed for specific holidays and it is likely they are open for shorter hours than in the summer when it stays light until 8 or 9 pm.

If you google each castle the web site will have the info.

Um. you asked about Germany - not Austria. Marksburg is on the Rhine NW of Frankfurt - nowhere near Austria.

Are you looking for castles only in austria?

To be more specific, Marksburg is in Braubach, just 11 train minutes south of Koblenz, Germany.

You didn't indicate where in Germany you were looking at? My favorite is Lubeck. Mideval town is charming, too.

Actually we are hoping to do Germany & Austria. Berlin to Munich to Vienna to Salzburg -- something like that. And then maybe drive the romantic rd into barvaria for a few days.

What part of Germany is Lubeck in? Yes, we would love to wander some medieval towns.

Suggest you start out with a decent map of Germany an Austria - and then google to locate the castes. (Michelin are available at any decent book store.) No - the ones being discussed are not near where you plan on going.

And you won;t be able to organize the trip without a map anyway.

I agree with NYTraveler. You will pretty much need a decent map anyway when you actually GO on your trip. Either a paper map or use Google. And if you have a Smartphone, you may have map functions on there as well.

As you plan, you can also use Google and enter the particular city name (or attraction) into their search and can find maps that way!

And I'm sorry I steered you to a castle that is WAY off where you are traveling. Without knowing specifics, it is very hard to answer your question. So, please in the future provide as much detail in your posts so people can help you!
