Germany Trip

Help....my first Europe trip I have read a lot of postings and thank you all already here is what I am thinking....well first you should know it is my husbands 30th birthday so we are going the end of October 2006 he wants to go to Berlin and Prague...
So how about this?
Berlin - Prague - Munich?
We have 9 days total including travel...is this enough? We have no kids....like to eat and I am practicing alrady how to order beers.
Any insight is appreciated.

will you be traveling by train or auto?

I would like to travel by train

Well, I am sure you will like all 3 cities. My personal preference is to have our own car, but we like to spend the majority of the time in smaller towns and the countryside.

But, having a car in just about any city in Europe is more hassle than it's worth, so if you are going to be seeing those cities, might as well stick to the train.

Some will likely tell you that is too much to cover in 9 days, but I would do it that way. The day spent on the train might be considered a wasted day, but I consider it part of the fun (looking out the window). We did do the overnight train from Munich to Prague a few years ago, so you could combine sleep and travel time if you chose that way.

Feel free to email me if you'd like, with other questions. I'm no expert, but have been over there a number of times and lived in northern Bavaria for 6 months.

Make sure the first beer you try is a "hefe-Weissen", and remember that their beer is a good bit stronger than in the USA.

Thank you for the insight...I'll keep you posted as to what we decide

Just say "zwei bier, bitte" and you'll be just fine.

Although the bier is sometimes called Weißbier for its cloudy, whitish look, the word is actually Weizen. Weizen means wheat, which is what it is made from. You should hear the bite in the z (ts) when you say Weizen.

All 3 cities are great, but you'll be rushing it. Strongly suggest you do Berlin and Prague. If you leave on Saturday, you'll arrive Sunday, by the time you settle in two days are gone. If you leave the following Sat (8th day)you only have 5 days, less travel from Berlin to Prague for sightseeing.
Your call.
