Germany Transit Visa Query
I am traveling from BOM, India to YKA, Canada via FRA, Germany and YVR, Canada. I have a 2.5 hours layover at Frankfurt airport. I am an Indian national so I'd normally need a German Transit visa if my layover exceeded 12 hours at Frankfurt. Since it's not the case, I'm not applying for the transit visa. Hypothetically speaking, if I were to miss my connecting flight to Vancouver which forced me to stay at Frankfurt airport for more than 12 hours, would I be violating visa rules?
Also, my layover at Vancouver is of 4 hours. Will I have enough time to go through immigration, recheck-in my luggage, get a study permit and the SIN number? Thank you in advance! |
On reading the info on the Schengen transit visa, it doesn’t appear to give a time limit eg under 12 hours no visa, over 12 hours visa required, it just says an Indian national needs a transit visa if you are changing flights in Germany. It does say that a transit visa is only valid for 24hours. Anything over that needs a full Schengen visa. I don’t know the answer to what happens if you exceed the time allowed in transit nor your other question. https://www.schengenvisainfo.com/transit-schengen-visa/ |
The Foreign Office lists the criteria for having to obtain a transit visa
https://www.auswaertiges-amt.de/en/a...606710-5-panel (You may have to scroll down a bit) It seems that if you hold a valid visa for Canada (which I assume you do as a future student there), you can transit without a visa. But when in doubt, I think it's better to ask the embassy. |
