I'm sure you deserved that pun-ishment

"Ah my poor little Diet of Worms joke......."

coming from a bloke whose people enjoy spotted dick - just saying...

Aside from the occasional Lederhosen-clad beer swiggers, the Germans are one of the slenderest peoples! They tend to take a larger meal at lunch and something light in the evening and cycle a great amount. You can eat healthily everywhere - just dont get too addicted to falafel kebabs, Litre-sized "Maß" beers and the ensuing giant brezel...

I've not been to Germany specifically but I'm of the "you can eat healthy anywhere" conviction. You just have to keep your eyes open and make good choices.

Plus generally speaking Europe isn't into as much 'processed foods' as you find in the US, so naturally is, well more natural!

It's the marching that keeps the slim (well not as fat).

hsv May 12th, 2010 07:40 AM

The Germans used to march when they had the Fuehrer (translates to leader).
The UK's new PM aspires to be a "leader" - so I guess there is hope the Brits will lose some weight, too.

I was in Germany only for about 8 days, but from what I have seen - NO WAY.
I wanted to try "German" food but after a few meals switched to Italian . Loved the cakes!

Maybe their trains will also finally run on time...

Germans aren't fat. They just have big bones.

hsv May 12th, 2010 08:06 AM

"Maybe their trains will also finally run on time..."

The Swiss are better at that - and its Deutsche Bahn, not SBB, that's moving for Arriva.

hsv May 12th, 2010 08:19 AM

"Germans aren't fat. They just have big bones."

It's not so much the bones, but meticulously toned beer muscles.

We don't march. We just sort of meander. But it gets the job done.

I will accept that the hun are good at penalty shoot outs though.

hsv May 13th, 2010 02:49 AM

"I will accept that the hun are good at penalty shoot outs though."

Do I have to point out the obvious pun regarding Germans and shooting now?
I would have hoped for a bit more poignancy - we know you can do better than that!

Cholmondley_Warner May 13th, 2010 03:14 AM

I'm just following orders.

And I'm mourning my, rather fine, Diet of Worms joke.

hsv May 13th, 2010 06:22 AM

Why the mourning?

The D(d)iet of W(w)orms is a fine piece of unexpectably subtle humour. Karl V probably did not speak English or would have chosen another venue.

I deliberately limited my opposition to your marginally less subtle remarks concerning wallpaper and oven gloves.

Cholmondley_Warner May 13th, 2010 10:14 AM

My poor little Diet of Worms joke. I mourn it.
