Germany - Munich

Where exactly is the Bavaria statue? Wikipedia states that it's on the border of Theresienwiese. Is that area open year round? What is in the Hall of Fame behind her? Are the steps open to go inside the statue?

Thanks!

Theresienweise is the name of the open grounds where Oktoberfest is staged, at the foot of the huge Bavaria statue and since i do not think it is enclosed should be open. But don't know about your other questions - will be tuned in to find out myself.

You can go inside. 66 steps to the top. It's in the SW area of the grounds. Very impressive, but I've not been inside it. I don't believe the fest area is closed, because there aren't any gates as I recall.

Here is a picture from the back and you see the entrance.

The building is the Ruhmeshalle. Never been inside, but it holds busts of famous people.

Thanks for all the information. I found the picture on twitter and then googled it but there wasn't much information except when the statue was built and where it is. Cool! Might be worth a trip!! Then I could say I have been to one of the world's largest statues!

The sun heats it up quite a bit. You should not be claustrophobic. Those circular stairs only have one side to walk on.

Thanks logos999. You got me on the claustrophobic part. Maybe we will take a look see. We will be there in November, hopefully it will be cooler! Is the view nice from the top?

logos999 Sep 16th, 2009 12:28 AM

The view is nice but imho it's not really worth it. Sorry, it's closed between October 16th and March.
