Germany in Nov.

I may be visiting a friend in Mainz this November and would like to know what people think of Germany during that month. Is the weather pretty bad, does is get much cheaper, are there any festivals? Any thoughts are welcomed. Thanks

I'm always amazed by folks that are going to visit friends and then come on this board to find out what the weather will be instead of just asking whomever they are visiting! :) That said, I live near Mainz and the weather can be crisp and cool sunny days or cold and dreary rainy days or somewhere in between. Check out www.mainz.de to find out what's happening/things to do locally. Just about any city you are looking to visit put a ".de" after it and you will get the city's site and lots have english versions or you can use that awesome translation site someone on this board pointed out the other day.

Thank you notsure. The problem is that my friend has yet to leave for Mainz. Yes, I am sure that she will be able to better inform me of the weather when living there but until then I am relying on books and advice from others. Thanks

Sarah,

I do not live in Germany and I'll try not to be a smart aleck...

We were in Munich area twice in November and once it was dreary and rainy and downright miserable. That was the first to middle of November,

The other time was over the thanksgiving holdiays and we started on the Rhine near Mainz and drove to Munich. Weather ranged from cool to snow at Fussen.

just be prrepared for some rain and cool and snow in the mountains.

US

11:11 11.11 the carneval starts officially. Nothing much happens until February, as long as you aren't in the carneval clubs (and if you ask me, the version of carneval organized by these clubs is one of the more awful things on earth) but there will be some celebrating on 11.11
