Nationality was mentioned in the article. KIndly note that I didn't include that he was said to have yelled "Allahu akbar" during the attack.
But yeah, I probably should have just said "17-year-old nutjob" since that's what he was. Anyhoo, he's dead now and those tourists have some gnarly scars and a good story to tell.

As long as Europeans allow the sale of cutlery and heavy bladed tools without background checks, this terror will never cease. On the bright for ISIL, these terror attacks take attention away from all the groping and sex crimes against European women children

BritishCaicos, I must say that I for once disagree totally with you.
Yet you are one of the most normal people on this forum.
So first, yes it is relevant, you just have to look at the number of threads that include 'safe'.
Right now we have a thread about how attacks might affect our travel style and another one about a cancellation to Turkey (ok, a putsch, but still).
Second, we mustn't be more catholic than the Pope and mentioning the nationality of the attacker is not intended, per se, as racial hatred.
Whenever we have an attack, there is always somebody mentioning the number of US victims, nobody jumps on wrong conclusions saying that non US victims are unimportant...
Anyway for people who fear traveling in war zones, they must avoid in Europe :
- Belgium
- France
- Germany
- Finland (not ISIS but a kind of Nazi crazy guy some time ago);
- ...
As for the remark about selling cutlery from Frank, I can only see it as black humour, so let me add one layer : if it had taken place in USA, the killer would have had a machinegun.

Pack your bags and take your chances.
You can swim with Great White, climb the Sydney harbour bridge, take a connecting flight through Ataturk Airport, if you're black you could even walk round down town Barnsfield after dark but still the most dangerous thing any traveller could ever do is drive in Thailand.

crellston, which poster are you talking about?
17-year-old Afghan refugee is how NPR described him this morning on the news.
I think we are just numbed by all the senseless murders, is is becoming normal not abnormal.
Our local hospital had a mentally ill person walk in without anyone stopping him Sunday 2:00 am and kill a patient and a nurse. The hospital refuses to change their security policy because that would admit they had lax security. DUH. Then I get a call on my home phone from someone wanting me to support everyone having guns. Are you crazy, the Dallas killer bought an AK47 from someone in the Target parking lot. I hate what the US has become. I would take a train in Germany any day or walk the streets of Nice but Turkey, no thanks.
I swim with sharks but the odds are small, guess you have to put everything into perspective. I was wondering about pepper spray or something to fight an ax wielding mental person with on the train.
