Joe Chan,
Are you attending the driving "school" at derNurburgring with others? Maybe a BMW, Porsche group?
If you have never been on the Nordschleife, get prepared for a EEE ticket ride and try to see a video of the track and/or a map of the "ideal line" around same before you get there.
It is very fast and difficult as well as potentially dangerous. Bring your helmets. My sons and I have many 100's of laps there.
I would rent a BMW or MB(K) 6 speed when leaving Munchen or Frankfurt.
There are many VG pensions in Nurburg (Eiffel) and the Moseltal just South is a wonderful area as has been mentioned. The Castle Burg Eltz is way better than Ludwig's more famous pair.
I would skip Frankfurt.
See other recent posts re: Rothenburg (Hot. Burg)and Gasthof Fraundorfer (Garmisch-Partenkirchen).
If you fly into FRA, I like touring the wine area to the west (Rheingau) and an overnight stay at Hot Jagdschloss Niederwald above the (awful) tourist town of Rudesheim on the way to dNBR. They have an awsome Feast Sankt Humbertus which would feed four or more.
Have a great trip!

Mikemo/CharlieB and all :

Thanks for the additional info. Yes, I am going to der Nordschleife for 2 fulldays ! Yeah ! 2 fulldays. Mikemo, can you tell me where can I get the EEE ticket and the video ?

Thanks

Mikemo:

One more question, can we get helmets there ? Rent I mean as baggage is a concern as we have 2 boys and 2 girls and we would be driving as such space in the trunk is a premium.

Thanks

Mikemo:

Another question, do you have the complete address like email/tel for the
pension (Eiffel) and the Moseltal ?

Thanks

joe chan,
I'm in the process of clearing out my house of 25 years for a sale, but I have all that and will retrieve same and foward asap.
The track is amazing - I can still "see" every one of the 148 or so "turns" in my dreams.

joechan,
my stuff is pretty outdated.
The EEE ticket was a reference to the old Disneyland E tickets which were for the best rides.
I have an old list of the hotels and pensions in Nurburg, but I did a google search typing in
Hotel tiergarten nurburg germany and there are several really good threads especially the current "Nurburgring for dummies".
The video may be available from the BMW CCA. The BMW Club Mulheim-Ruhr e.V has an annual driving school there and they have a publication called "dNBR Ideallinie". I don't know about helmet rentals.
Hot zur Burg and Hot Tiergarten are VG.
