<want to do: Neuschwanstein (tour scheduled for the morning of 13.07 at 9:45), Linderhof, Zugspitze, Wieskirche, and luge>

from Kempten you need not suffer any terrible roads unless you want to to get to these points - none of these require any mountain driving unless you go up the Zugspitze, which i don't even know if possible

yes the strike that is looming over German trains is not railpass friendly as conditions state that strikes are not cause for refunds, etc.

So it makes pass planning hard - yet i've rarely seen any strike that really lasts very long. Trains are essential to countries like Germany and the public clamor usually means a quick resolution.

But the water torture type of strike postponements and not settling that is going on leaves a question of uncertaintly for pass planning.

and after 38 years of studying European trains intensely i can't recall any strike that really went on for days - i'm sure there are some but the chances of a serious upheaval is remote i believe - especially in Germany

Well, I hope they get something settled before October. I am going to Bavaria then. Although some of my travel will be by bus, a lot will be by train.

I wouldn't worry that much - hard to believe it would defy the history of many such strikes and not last more than a day or so.

And as someone said on another post, a chunk of train drivers are not in the union that's threatening the walk out.

But yes - the maximum disruption from this is by putting it off and extending many folks angst - a Chinese water torture kind of
