German Rail

Am purchasing a German Railpass within days. Basic comes with 4 days and option to purchase addit days at $24 per.
My question:
I cannot price trips Gengenbach im Schwarzwald to Colmar Gare in France--the price just won't come up on bahn.de...I assume because its crossing the border.
Therefore, I don't know if point-to-point is cheaper than purchasing an extra DB day, or even if if the DB pass covers a substantial/any portion of the trip?
Gengenbach to Strasbourg comes up at 15.40 E RT...is this the price with the DB pass, or is a supplement necessary?
I hate to purchase an extra day, then find it useless!
Raileurope has not answered my question.

elberko:
I had great hopes for your suggested site, but it was no help!
All the towns to which I'll be travelling or staying were not in their database, not even nearby larger towns!
So I ended up entering cities which were actually quite distant from where I was going--which really skews the whole price estimate! Oh well...
Raileurope says their entire computer system is down for at least 'several hours'....

I have stayed in Gengenbach last year and did the day trip to Strasbourg. The fare is only 6 Euro (retour) - this is a day pass for the regional transportation network which includes also the buses and trams in Strasbourg.

If you do a search here for Gengenbach my trip report should come up (includes switzerland).

Maybe you could try the French rail website for the fares Strasbourg - Colmar?

Ingo:
Read your travelogue from last year, confirmed my desire to use Gengenbach as a home base!
Do you know if there is a manned train station in G.
to ask these fare questions of?
Do you know the french train internet site?

Yes, there is a manned rail station in Gengenbach. I don't know about their English skills, though :)

The site of the French railways is www.sncf.com
I checked the Strasbourg - Colmar route and found out that the one-way fare is 9.30 Euro.

Since your GermanRail pass will not be good for any of the portion of the proposed trip that occurs in France you might consider just buying a point to pont from the first town in France (I assume Strasbourg since I believe the route through Basel may require switching to a bus for the final portion).
You might consider consulting an atlas so you can see how much of the territory you are going to cover is actually in France.

Rach, don't work up too much perspiration over a few euros for a train ticket. The price difference will be about the same as a cup of coffee over there. Are you an accountant on the job or one of us on vacation?
