German Medication/Supplement and German Doctor Consult

Hi Fodorites:This is a bit out there, but hoping that my Fodorites will come through for me as they have time and again. Two questions:
  1. Is anyone familiar with this German medication/supplement called Canephron N? Apparently, German doctors prescribe it quite commonly in Germany? My naturopathic doctor here in the US has recommended it for long term use. She assures me it’s safe and that doctors in Germany prescribe this all the time. And that in Germany there are ads for this all over. I already asked the MDs here in the US about it and they are not familiar with it.
  2. Does anybody know of any service where I can consult a German doctor online while I am in the U.S. But I am wondering if I can actually talk to a doctor in Germany for reassurance. Thanks so much! Otherwise, I guess, it’s time to plan a trip to Germany!

This one's a bit different. I was asking people that are familiar with Germany (either live there / visited there / or visit there often) to see if they have any personal experiences with this supplement (Question # 1). The second question was yes, the phone consult option which I have posted in the Fodorite lounge. But again hoping to hear from people here that visit Germany often.

I'd consult a real doctor. That's just some herbs, you know, and some studies show no effect and others caution against long term use. I don't know what your problem is but long term use of any product that is unregulated is not a good idea and not solving the cause. You can find published articles in the NLM pubmed database. Look at drugs.com under lavage root.

I imagine, or at least I hope, that someone with experience can help you here. Is Germany the only Euopean country where this is available??

That thread is in the Lounge - not everyone has access or posts there. Plus the whole topic is probably a better fit here on the Europe Forum since several German residents and frequent visitors post here.

As was stated in the original thread the supplement in question is freely available in the US as well. If you trust your naturopath, and I assume you do or you wouldn't consult them, why not just try it with the over the counter US version?
Unless of course you are looking for an excuse for a visit to Germany.

Plenty of German sites selling the stuff. Here is one:

German medicine runs a little towards homoeopathic treatments, so I would not be surprised if this is true, that this medicine gets supplied regularly by German doctors. If you really want to talk to a German doctor, the US consulate in Frankfurt will have a list of local English-speaking doctors. I don't know if any of them will do a Zoom or Webex call, not having personally consulted a German doctor since before Covid, but the consulate is where I'd start. I think this is overthinking the problem though. If you are prepared to go to a naturopath, why would you not just trust their prescription? What is it about the medicine that is so suspect?
