Guten Tag!
I'm studying in Germany right now, in my 3rd trip to Germany. My suggestion is bring flowers. Even Germans bring flowers to each other when they visit. Also, I'm from Wisconsin, and when I'm coming straight from home, I will usually bring something that is from Wisconsin. My favorite, is to bring cheddar cheese wrapped in wax. It stays a long time out of refridgeration and is always well liked. I've also brought a picture book(with some English) calendars and magnets from WI. Have a good time!

Candy (from here) is well-received, and fits in well with what they're used to getting. I'm from the southeastern U.S., and find that pralines (we like the crumbly kind, not the chewy ones) go over well. Not too heavy (like a book) to pack. The gift should be nicely wrapped.

If you want to wait until you get there, do flowers. Ask the clerk in the flower shop for guidance as to what would be appropriate (different flowers have symbolic meanings with which you may not be familiar).
