German beach vacation

I will be in the North East of Germany for about a week at the end of August and would like to go the beach a bit. Can anyone suggest good beaches if my homestay will be in Lubeck? Thanks
Check out the nice beaches just west of Greifswald. Also, don't miss the resort island of Ruegen. It is as gorgeous as Sylt, but without the hype. I figure it has a couple of years to go before it is totally overrun by tourists. Check it out while it's still hot!

I agree. Rugen is great.

If you are looking for beaches a little closer to Lübeck than Rügen (3+hrs), try Timmendorfer Strand, which is about 20 min. away. It's a chic but touristy town with many cafes and restaurants, it has a large beach and a promenade with a pier. It's busy this time of year, but it's the most convenient town to Lübeck. Other towns which are only a few minutes further away are Scharbeutz and Haffkrug. All three towns can easily be reached by train or car.
Gute Reise

How is the weather and water temp around these areas? I am from Cape Cod and heard that it may be similar. Thanks

Weather should be fairly comfortable, between 68-77 degrees. Water temp about
65-70 degrees. In fact I'll be leaving for that area tomorrow. Last year in August we had a couple of colder days and one day was close to 80, so it could vary greatly. Before you leave check in at www.wetter.de.
