Georgian House Hotel

Does anyone know anything about the Georgian House Hotel? Is it clean, friendly, close to Victoria Station? Does 62 pounds per night, including VAT and full breakfast sound like a good deal? thanks

My first trip to London was not a good one. I booked a room at the Georgian House Hotel and couldn't stay there because it was cluttered and filthy. I was very disappointed and ended up driving to Brighton and staying there. London is a wonderful city, but finding a good place to stay is tantamount to having a good vacation. I am not too picky about accommmodations, but I would not suggest the Georgian House Hotel near Oxford Street. I know that there is another hotel with the same name, but I don't know what it's like. I would suggest a B&B.

<BR>The New York Times published an article on London budget travel this weekend and they favorably mentioned a place called St. Margaret's hotel near Russel Square. <BR>They said that it is simple, and the strongest adjective they could use was "clean" but it sounded "acceptable". <BR> <BR>Perhaps you can find it on one of these websites: <BR>www.usagateway.visitbritain.com/ British Tourist Authority <BR>www.s-h-systems.co.uk/london.html/ hotel listings <BR>http://london.hotelguide.net/ <BR>www.demon.co.uk/hotel-net/ <BR>www.kgp-publishing.co.uk/LONDON.html/ <BR>www.demon.co.uk/hotel-uk/lonquick.html/ <BR> <BR>

<BR>We stayed at the Georgian House - 35-37 St George's Drive - in late August and found it clean and adequate if plain. Breakfast was good and generous. We stayed in the top floor "student" rooms with bath down the hall for 33 pounds per room, but they have nicer, en suite rooms, all with breakfast for more. It is about 6 blocks behind Victoria station and we felt fine for us - seniors.

I stayed at St. Margaret's Hotel on Bedford Place last December and posted on this forum. A brief recap incase the search function isn't working. <BR>The hotel is threadbare. The furniture is a combination of 50's kitsch and your grandmother's summer cottage. The "ensuite" "bathrooms" are those plastic contraptions in the corner. BUT. The place is SPOTLESS! I mean C*L*E*A*N. [I think that's how the rugs got threadbare:)] The management is the Italian family who has run the place for the Duke of Bedford for 45 years. They are incredibly accomodating and helpful considering the price. [Italians with much more money than I were staying there.] It *is* a bit of a dump, but it is a CLEAN, well-run one :) <BR>
