Genoa or Verona
 

If I have one day and night to fill which place would you pick. I am between Como and Levanto.

I've been to both. I loved Verona, hated Genoa.

Verona. But is Verona really in your way?

I am a great fan of Genova, but I think that Verona lends itself much more to a one day visit. It is a small, flat town with one small but highly enjoyable art museum and a fantastic Roman arena. And most of the rest of its historic attractions are set along a pretty river or along pretty piazzas or near ancient walls. There is excellent wine in Verona.

I don't know how long you are staying in Levanto, but if you get a rainy day, visit Genova. By that time you will have tasted Ligurian food, and it is possible to spend all day in Genova doing nothing but eating -- the food is so good!

artlove, you hated Genoa? I am sorry. I love Genoa and although I enjoy Verona between the two Genoa is my favorite. But cherylbr, I do agree with nessundorma, if you have one day and night you would probably enjoy Verona the most. I am trying to remember when Levanto is however, not sure.

I've never been to Verona but I was very positively surprised by Genoa. It's a lovely city with great culture and the best gnocchi al pesto!

Levanto is just our hub for the Cinque a Terra. I am a big Romeo and Juliet fan -that is why I thought of Verona, but we love to eat so thanks for the heads up on the Genoa food.

Maybe we just had a bad experience there, but it really depressed the hell out of all of us. Whereas DD and I really like Verona whereas DH just thought it was OK.

Also, as tuscanlifeedit pointed out, Verona looks relly out of your way.

Maybe do some more reseach for other possibilities.

Although Verona is a wonderful city well worth a visit, if you are in Levanto, you are next door to Genoa, you can hop on a train, and get more quality time there then travelling several hours to Verona. I also love Genoa, you can easily psend a good day there.

I love Genoa, but I also love Milan and Naples..so each of us have different places that we enjoy. But artlover, I hope at some point you can again visit Genoa. I know sometimes when one is a location for one reason or another it doesn't work but another time it can. Hope all is well with you know that your daughter is out of harms way. Take good care!!

DD just flew from Roma (was there nearly 2 weeks) to Athens and will be home next week at this time. She told me she has a GREAT restaurant recco for "your friends in Fodors", so I will post (at least that) when she returns. She too loves Naples, though hasn't been to Milan yet. I have, and it isn't on my favorite list. Do you speak Italian? (I forgot) That sure would help in all places in Italy! Ciao, ciao!

Regarding my speaking Italian. I understood Italian when I was a little girl as well as I understood English..as I heard both languages daily.

My speaking Italian..well it is pathetic if the truth be known. But I do better after I arrive in Italy. Better but not good or best, lol.

I am always amaze when nonenglish speaking Italians understand me. Those Italian are clever!!
