genoa hotels

Looking for an up to date view of hotel Agnello D'oro and/or Soana.

Any better suggestions will be appreciated.

Agnello d'Oro is one of my two favorite hotels in Genoa.
The other one is the B&B IL SALOTTO DI LUCILLA (www.ilsalottodilucilla.com)
located in the historical center, it is delicious and charming.
At breakfast, do not miss their focaccia.

Ciao.

Bumping.

Thinking about a trip to Genova in September. Will be staying for several days to explore the town and visit museums and churches, plus maybe take a few day trips, I adore non-touristy Italian cities (Bologna, Torino). I've been checking quite a few B&B's (and hotels, but following a fabulous experience in Bologna in 2006, I think I prefer B&B's), it seems there is quite a nice selection to choose from.
One general question about location: this place on Via XX Settembre 21 looks appealing (but could it be noisy, sitting on a main road?)

And another one that looks nice is this one which is situtated next to Via della Maddalena

And there are other establishments in both areas that look good.

Vicenzo, zeppole, which of them do you think would be safer for a woman travelling on her own? Or are both good?

I'm considering Il Salotto di Lucilla as well, just prefer spending as little as possible on accommodation, since this will be a long trip which will include other destinations.

Thanks.

Via XX Settembre is a very busy road.

On the other hand, Via della Maddalena ... "interesting" people just hanging around. I wasn't comfortable being there even in the middle of the day.

Thanks, greg. From your other post I gather you didn't stay in Genova, just passed there on your way to another destination? So maybe I can look for a something around Brignole, there are some places around there that get good reviews. Hmm...

We were in Genoa for a couple nights last July. I loved it, my husband not so much. And we stayed at Hotel Metropoli
http://book.bestwestern.it/EN/Genoa_maps_98125.aspx I know you prefer B&B's but I mention this hotel so you can compare locations. It's location, Piazza Fontane Marose, could not have been better for exploring Genova. Any direction would take you minutes walk to the something of interest. Even the train station is walkable for day trips. As for safety, we walked the area well into the evening and saw nothing the least bit sketchy. (Although I do admit walking into the dimly lit medieval alleys can give a city girl pause. But then that's part of the charm.)

Thanks, toni. This hotel is a bit pricey but I will keep it in mind, it seems like a nice area. I think I won't risk staying in one of the alleys around Via della Maddalena but there are other places to stay in the old town, to the south of the Via, that seem safer.
