GENOA ?
After visiting the French coast for 8 days in early May, we'll have an apt. in Bussana ( near San Remo)for 5 nights (free). Since CT is too far for a day trip, would you recommend a visit to Genoa or some other place nearby ? Better to drive ( parking?) or take a train to Genoa?
Thanks. |
Take train to Genoa - cheap and like most big Italian towns cars are a pain, from parking to driving and much of the city centre is pedestrian only - especially which is Genoa's main draw to me - the warren of incredibly narrow streets in the old town near the port.
Trains take you to the town centre. And Genoa is a fascinating town in many ways - one of Europe's finest aquarium's is its newest attraction. |
Thanks PalenQ,
I have checked another thread ; Genoa has had mixed reviews but any place in Italy must be worth a visit (even for a day). |
Well yes it's no Rome as quite near the port are some humungous industries on the water - the train actually goes right thru a huge refinery - this may detract from the overall city but to me Genoa is still a gem in its historic core. But folks have different reactions to the same stuff - i'm just giving my opinion.

thanks again. I agree.

And it could be when one visited. Several years ago for some World's Fair or some such hullabaloo Genoa thoroughly spruced up its city centre. Before that one may have been put off by derelict appearance of some quarters. The old slum between historic centre and port was one area rehabbed impressivly.

Hi NB - Besides Genoa there are several attractive places to visit along the coast - e.g Alassio, Finale Ligure, Noli ...
Hope this helps ... Steve |
