GENEVA to MADRID TRAIN

Due to closure of London and Geneva airports, husband stuck in Switzerland after 2 week business trip
Can get on flight back to USA on Monday out of Madrid, but can he get there by train?
Any advice appreciated!

The latest train I see from Geneva tonight is departing about now (18:58 Geneva time). There is an early train Sunday morning which leaves at 6:58 am and arrive Madrid at 21:08.
Another train departs at 11:17 am and arrives just after midnight. Both trains require multiple changes.

I think that he would have to go through either Paris or Frankfurt?

I suggest he got to a local TA in Swizterland and see what they can do.. It's going to be tough!

The trainhotel Pau Casals, from Zürich-Barcelona, only runs on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

There is also a rail strike going on in France that may affect some of the routes and local trains in France. The following report is from Elipsos:

(1) Alternative means of transportation
For the affected passengers who choose to take it a bus service covering the train route has been made available. These passengers can then request for the refund of the difference between the cost of their ticket and the cost of a seated ticket on general tariff on the corresponding train and date.

Any news or modification to this information will be published at this website.

Elipsos regrets any inconvenience caused by this situation.

Just read that they have closed seven airports in the north of Spain as the clouds drift south; Asturias, Santander, Bilbao, San Sebastián, Vitoria, Pamplona & Logroño.
